I was recently asked by Bentley Michaels, the Performance Titan over at NerdTitan.com, if I would be willing to be a guest on his podcast! I agreed and we recorded last week. He shot me a txt last night, informing me that the podcast was up, so here you go! I had a BLAST talking with Bentley about how I kinda sound like Seth Rogen, my roles as the Table-Top Titan and Science Correspondant at NerdTitan.com and I got on my high-horse and ranted about NASA being defunded. It was a LOT of fun and I have been invited to guest on the show again, in a couple of weeks, along side the VERY funny King Richard, the Comedy Titan over at NerdTitan.com! I am GREATLY looking forward to that podcast! You can give the Bentley Michaels Performance Titan podcast a listen over on NerdTitan.com and you can subscribe to it over on iTunes.
Ascension is, for my money, the best deck building game on the market. I know the Dominion crowd won’t appreciate that statement, but Ascension is a better two player experience than Dominion. I like the Ascension system simply because of limitation of the “Supply” and the (virtually) unlimited amount of basic purchases and Monsters to defeat. There’s also some variety as it applies to strategy. I love that Ascension is available for mobile devices, as well. What card gamer doesn’t like the chance to strategize behind their opponents’ backs? This article is a little tl;dr for some, so if you’re just looking for the app link and not interested in the rest, here ya’ go.
I found out about Cards Against Humanity, the “Party Game for Horrible People”, back in the summer, but couldn’t seem to come up with a copy as it sells out so fast. I added it to my Amazon shopping cart back in August and asked my Amazon app to notify me when it became available for purchase. Sometime in October, the order was placed and I received my copy shortly after. Cards Against Humanity = Legit! This is not meant to be a review of the game, as any given person will either love it or hate it regardless of what I have to say about it. It has, however, become a favorite amongst my game group and my in-laws… I know. Weird, right?
On a completely unrelated (until recently) topic, I really love me some nerdy music. Jonathon Coulton, Paul and Storm and Marian Call are a few of my favorites. I heard about the Portland, Oregon based (that’s only a couple hours north of me!) Doubleclicks back in the summer and they quickly climbed into my top 5! I absolutely LOVE their nerdy folk tunes about Star Trek and con-life. Con-life actually means convention life, which is far less gangster than you were probably thinking. Although, I would totes listen to the Doubleclicks doing a cover of the infamous Tupac and Snoop Dogg collabo “Americas Most Wanted”. The answer to your question is “Yes.”, I would totally bust a verse on that track! #Goldmine
Well, my fellow nerds, I love when two different portions of my nerdom converge on each other to make one of those, “Holy shit! Mind = Blown!” Venn Diagrams. I just found out (a couple months behind in the times) that the Doubleclicks were asked to make the official Cards Against Humanity theme song! #TotesAmazeBalls!
Can this post get any better? You’re fuckin’ A it can! The song “A Good Game of Cards” (embedded at the top of this post) is available as a free download. Download it, enjoy it then go buy more stuff from the Double-clicks. Want more? You got it! Cards Against Humanity is, again, sold out. However, they offer the card templates as a free pdf download on their website, so you can download and print up your own copy of the game! Click the links at the bottom of this post to find some more awesome tunes from the Doubleclicks and/or to down-load your copy of Cards Against Humanity as a free pdf.
This is Wehttam. I am attempting to communicate with Nainotulpian expeditionary ship Ylferif currently orbiting the third planet that is orbiting Nuseht. I’ve tapped a local inhabitant of this planet in an attempt to ascertain how I might be able to communicate with the ship and my superior officers and to attain a bit more information about this planet since it appears that I may now be here longer than was initially planned. The “intelligent” life forms of this planet, known to them as Earth, call themselves “humans”, which seems to be a derivative of their scientific language, “Latin”, for the homo erectus species. I learned one of the many languages that exist, here on Earth, known as American English, by telepathically scanning his brain for communication systems. Apparently, this culture is still very dependent on audible expression, except in the case of their VERY primitive computational devices, which seem to be named after a fruit that grows on trees, for whatever reason.
The “Planet X” or “Nibiru” theory is by far the most prominent in the Doomunity these days. It is easy to see why, as well. It is the hardest (supposedly) to confirm or deny. Just look at the past “Debunking Doomsday” posts that I’ve put up:
- Coronal Mass Ejections: These happened over the Thanksgiving holiday and hit the Earth days later. I’m willing to bet that no one reading this noticed a difference.
- Planetary Alignment: All of the planets in our solar system are going to line up in a straight line and the gravity of the gas giants on one side of the Earth combined with the gravity of the Sun on the other side of us will pull our planet apart. No such alignment is even supposed to happen in the near future, much less on 12.21.12
- Solstice Conjunction: Happens EVERY December 21st and the planet has yet to fall out of orbit, be ripped to shreds, have our magnetic poles reversed or any other crazy theory that was supposed to happen. It’s called the Solstice Conjunction because it happens on the date of the Winter Solstice every year. Congratulations, this is the shortest day of the year! #DOOOOM!
Nibiru, which is referred to as a rogue planet that orbits out in the Kuiper Belt by some in the doomunity and as a brown dwarf star by others, is supposed to strike out of nowhere on December 21, 2012. The first sign that this theory too is nothing but hogwash is that the crazy doomsayers can’t even collaborate on what the hell Nibiru is.
