My good friends from Bonsai Games (Ruse, Infinite Power) & Elderhaven Games (Dig Site) and I have been planning a local event for #TableTopDay! Sarah and Levi of Bonsai Games put in MAD WORK on this getting several game publishers to send us stuff to demo and giveaway at the con!

I will be bringing my game library and will be doing demos of many of them through out the day. This is my official invite to you to come out and play some games with your fellow nerds! The event is free (with encouraged donations going to the Boys and Girls Club of Albany) and will be a blast! Here’s the list of games that I will be bringing…

  • Ascension
  • Castle Panic
  • Dominion
  • Elder Sign
  • Infinite Power (ECG)
  • It’s Alive!
  • Kittens in a Blender
  • Magic: the Gathering
  • Munchkin (+ Unnatural Axe & The Guild Expansions)
  • Star Munchkin
  • Pandemic
  • Ruse
  • Settlers of Catan
  • Small World (+ Two Expansions)
  • Ticket to Ride (+ India & Switzerland Expansions)
  • We Didn’t Playtest This
  • Zombie Dice (+ Double Feature Expansion)

I will be printing out several QR codes for some of the games that have either mobile versions (Ascension, Elder Sign, Small World, Ticket to Ride and Zombie Dice) or have mobile accessories (Munchkin) like a level counter. You will be able to scan these QR codes with your iDevice (not sure if they have Android options) and download the app on the spot!

I am encouraging all comers to take pictures and/or videos while at the event and Tweet them to me for a post that I will be doing on Nerd Titan, and my YouTube channel! Should you be interested in Tweeting pics/vids to me to include in my video, you can Tweet them to @alloymatt using the hashtag #TableTopDay

You can find all the details about the event by clicking over to our event pages on either Facebook or Google+ and can find more info about what #TableTopDay is by watching the videos from Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton at the bottom of this post or by visiting the Table Top Day website where you can find similar events going on in your part of the world, should you not be local to the Oregon area.

Question time! What game(s) would you like to play/are you planning to bring with you on #TableTopDay? Tweet your responses to this question with (or just copy and paste) the following:

I’m playing [insert game name here; or just delete this part] with @BonsaiGames, @ElderhavenGames and @alloymatt on #TableTopDay! Join us!

Make sure you include the link at the end of the Tweet (to this article) so other people that you know that may be interested in also attending will know where to get the info on the event! You can also just grab the link and start posting it to all the other internets (Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, etc…) should you so desire.

Card Game Review: Ruse

The above video is a short intro about the backstory of the game.

Backstory: I attended a gamecon in September in which most of my gaming group also attended. I was in a Magic: the Gathering for a couple of hours, and my gaming group spent some time running around the con checking out new games, as one should do at a game con. They met this couple that were demoing a game that they were creating themselves and played a card game called “Ruse” with them. Later, I got out of the Magic tourney (it wasn’t going well; so I dropped) and was talking to my group who were RAVING about this steampunk whodunnit that they had played, Ruse,  and insisted that I play it. Well, we started playing a different game, more distractions happened and I ended up not playing Ruse. One of my group friended the developers on Facebook and they happened to be from the same small town as us! What are the chances! My group went over to the developers’ house for a game night and I finally played Ruse.

Currently: Ruse was developed by Levi Mote and Sarah Sharp of Bonsai Games (Infinite Power, Kaiju City) and the premise, if you didn’t watch the above video, is that each player is a character in the steampunk city of St. Sabastian. Amid all the steam, pulleys and gears, there has been a murder and the characters are all suspects!

Backed on Kickstarter: Ruse

I spoke about a card game that I really enjoyed called “Ruse” a little while ago. Above is the video that Game Salute has posted on their Vimeo page to promote the game. I have a new announcement about the game, it’s now on Kickstarter! This is a blast of a game and I’m really looking forward to seeing it fund! Please support indie table top game developers and back this project! The game is in my top 5 favorite table top games along with Ticket To Ride, Munchkin, Magic: The Gathering & Zombie Dice. Friends of mine that know how seriously I take gaming will know what putting this game up there with those is really QUITE a testament to how great it is! Watch the video above and contribute to this campaign by clicking the link below. I kicked in $25, so can you!

Ruse on Kickstarter

Last Weekend’s Adventures of Epic Nerdom!

As much as I complain about Albany, Oregon and the lack of nerds here in my “Nerd in the Country” posts, I do have a small core of nerds that I refer to, lovingly, as my nerdhurd. A couple of weeks ago, most of my nerdhurd and I attended a Gamecon (that’s a gaming convention for all you rednecks) together in Corvallis, Oregon. While I was playing in a Magic: the Gathering tourney, my cohorts were gaming with the rest of the con and trying out new games.

In this process, they met the amazing and nerdy couple, Levi and Sara, who happen to be indie game developers! They’ve developed a few games in the past and are currently ready to takeover Kickstarter with their newest game, “Ruse.” My cronies played a demo version of the game with the couple and said it was absolutely brilliant and that I HAD to play it! Well, things got busy at Gamecon as I happened to be demoing a few games for others and I never got the chance to play Ruse before they had to pack up. I did play some Zombie Dice, We Didn’t Playtest This Game and Munchkin with them for a while and thought they were amazingly cool people.

Since then, Levi and Sara invited us over to their place for some gaming and nerdity, where I finally got to play Ruse. It really lived up to everything that I was hearing about the game! I’m really stoked to see it hit Kickstarter so I can pledge and try to make it a success! I won’t get into detail about the game here, as it is still considered to be “In Development”, and don’t want to give the game away before an official launch. You can read a little bit about it on the official Ruse page on BoardGameGeek or hit their website if you’re interested in finding out more! I am hoping to get my hands on an early copy of the game so I can get a review up for it here and, if you would be interested, maybe get a short interview with Levi and Sara that I can throw up on my YouTube channel and here on the blog!

I know they are planning to release a cool gameplay video along with their Kickstarter campaign in the near future, and I will post the link to that as soon as it goes up! I’d like to leave you with a couple of questions:

1) Would you be interested in an interview about Ruse with Levi and Sara?
2) What connections have you made at conventions?
